KADAVAR to Release Debut Album “Kadavar” on July 10, 2012
Hard rock, stoner rock, doom and psychedelic cosmonauts, prepare to celebrate with wild delight!
Fast rising Berlin rock band KADAVAR will release its self titled debut Kadavar in North America on July 10 via Tee Pee Records. Boasting an absolutely killer sound that will find immediate appeal with fans of Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Sir Lord Baltimore, Witchcraft and Graveyard, KADAVAR‘s thunderous gloom sounds as if it was “dug out and dusted off” and is the absolute apotheosis of the “Sabbath sound”. You might want to rock a monk’s robe or a space suit for this one!
KADAVAR is a big black shape with eyes of fire with an immediate sound that induces “chill and numbs from head to toe”. Cathedrals in fog emerge from the speakers as KADAVAR‘s heavy blues-rock, awesomely loud minor-key dirges and Geezer Butler-esque pressure roll bass lines create a paean to the dark mesmerizing power of the distorted Blues. Howled vocals full of ominous messages expressing mental anguish and macabre fantasies fly over a seemingly endless supply of monster riffs and rhythm-section chug (including very subtle Ward-like jazz qualities!) that slowly envelope the listener in a hallucinatory haze. Handpicked by both SLEEP and PENTAGRAM as support on each of the Gods of Doom’s respective European tours this summer, KADAVAR‘s strutting style and warm, analog tones are sure to transport audiences to proto-metal oblivion. Heaven’s golden chorus sings, Hell’s angels flap their wings!
The track listing for Kadavar is as follows:
1. All Our Thoughts (4:38)
2. Black Sun (6:17)
3. Forgotten Past (5:41)
4. Goddess of Dawn (4:17)
5. Creature of the Demon (4:54)
6. Purple Sage (8:13)
KADAVAR features Wolf Lindemann (vocals, guitar), Mammut (Rivoli bass) and Tiger (drums).

SLEEP: Stoner Metal Icons To Play Four Special U.S. Shows Next Month
Following a near month-long stretch of European live dates, currently underway, stoner metal icons SLEEP will play four special U.S. shows next month in Florida, Washington and California. The performances come in celebration of the epic deluxe reissue of Dopesmoker released via Southern Lord Recordings earlier this month. Entirely remastered from the original smoke-encrusted Ampex reels, the reissue features an unreleased live recording of one their greatest live performances — “Holy Mountain” from San Francisco’s I-Beam in 1994 — as well as a brand new artwork by long time SLEEP artist Arik Roper.
Dopesmoker stands as one of the towering achievements in recent metal history: a mesmerizing, intoxicating, and incredibly complex composition that remains unrivaled in the evolution of stoner metal. In a recent review, Alarm Magazine christened it “a monolith of metal,” MSN echoed the sentiment calling the record, “one of the most influential stoner/doom albums ever recorded,” while Pitchfork crowned Dopesmoker “Best New Reissue” noting, “it’s an hour of adventure and momentum, where the lumber and the repetition somehow always push ahead. At a moment when black metal reinventers and D-beat revivers seem to dominate large sections of the heavy music world, maybe the thought of a resin-voiced singer intoning for an hour over riffs that wrap into themselves and drums that aim ever for infinity seems boring. But no matter how many times they had to record or rehearse ‘Dopesmoker’ to master it, or no matter how much pressure London placed on them to make something more commercial than personal, SLEEP sound as if their very existence depends upon the successful exercise of this weed ritual…. This record’s influence on substance, style, and simple ambition within heavy metal has long outlived the band that made it. “

Geezer Butler snubbed me says Bill Ward
![]() |
| Bowing out: Sabbath, with drummer Tommy Clufetos, after their Birmingham show |
The “Sab opera” continues with another statement from the estranged drummer following the band’s reunion show in hometown Birmingham, UK, which they played without him.
In his latest comment Ward vows to continue correcting any inaccuracies published about him as Sabbath work towards their headline slot at next month’s Download festival, followed by recording sessions for their first album with Ozzy Osbourne since 1979.
The drummer says: “Out of respect for the Birmingham gig I wanted to wait 24 hours before releasing this statement.
“I had indeed notified Ozzy, Tony and Geezer well before my first public statement that I was having contractual difficulties.
“The band members stopped corresponding with me some time ago, with the exception of a nice letter from Tony on my birthday. Prior to that, Geezer and I were corresponding, but that stopped abruptly in late February after I emailed a specific question to him.”
Butler’s recent comment queried Ward’s position on appearing at Birmingham show for no wages but the drummer says: “I clearly stated I would play Birmingham for free. That was not a problem.”
The bassist also said that, due to the costs of staging the one-off Download show, there weren’t going to be massive profits – but Ward’s contractual requirements were a “joke”. The drummer responds: “My fee was not an extravagant amount. When Download was part of a full tour I had asked for a decent fee. More recently, as we were negotiating just Download, Birmingham and Lollapalooza, I told my attorney that I would accept the proposed small Download fee.
“But there were other parts of the offer that were unsatisfactory.”
He concludes: “I will continue to be honest and respectful towards the band and our fans. I will also confront any untruths about me, and any fault-finding missions aimed at me that come to my attention. I hope the band and the fans had a good gig in Brum.”
Ward does not refer to Sabbath’s removal of his pictures from the homepage and gallery of their website, which they say was carried out at his request.
At Saturday’s warm-up show the audience hailed Tony Iommi’s fight back from cancer by chanting his name, a moment which clearly moved the guitarist.
